VJ announced the XTRM-shoe couple weeks ago out of the blue, or like we say here in Finland, behind a tree. The XTRM-shoe is designed for the sky runners and ultra trail runners. The shoe resembles the VJs famous iRock-shoe. Both have butyl-rubber outsole and 6mm rubber studs, kevlar cloth and fit-lock lacing. However the XTRM has wider last and the rockplate covers the whole midsole. I got chance to try out the shoe in the Suunnistajan Kauppa here in Helsinki.
In the feet the XTRM-feels stiffer and harder than the irock so I can see that this is a great tool when scrambling up the rocky faces in the mountains or when racing down from boulder to boulder. In a forest the irock will perform better than the XTRM. I will be investigating the shoe more and the full review will be posted here in ApproachNorth.com later, stay tuned!
